Great leaders inspire action, build trust and create a lasting impact. As a dentist, your leadership isn’t confined to managing a team—it extends to the way you guide, communicate with and care for your patients. In this session, you’ll learn how to use the forces of motivation (push, pull, anxieties and habits) to understand your patients, create exceptional patient experiences and attract more of them.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn to uncover the hidden "job" your patients are hiring you to do, going beyond surface-level understanding to reveal their true needs and motivations.
- Use the forces of motivation (push, pull, anxieties and habits) to communicate clearly and craft experiences that keep them coming back.
- Speak to the heart of your customers' true desires to deliver experiences (and marketing) that stand out.
Speaker: Tessa West, PhD
Direct communication is something that many of us struggle with, no matter how expert we are at work. This session will include a step-by-step guide, with clear behavioral examples, to creating direct communication in common social situations in the workplace. We will focus on interactions in which feelings of anxiety and uncertainty can interfere with our ability to communicate effectively, including job interviews and disagreements among office staff. Because social interactions involve a “dance” between two people, Tessa West will also focus on how to get interactions back on track when one partner derails the conversation through one of three common disruptive strategies: bait-and-switch, defensiveness, and reverse blame. To bring the science-backed approaches to life, this session will be interactive.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the basic principles of direct communication
- Learn how to execute the principles in anxiety-provoking social situations
- Learn how to respond to a partner when they engage in the three disruptive strategies
