CHICAGO, June 5, 2024 — Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s of Chicago (Lurie Children’s) closed today on the purchase of the building at 211 East Chicago Avenue from the American Dental Association (ADA). The property is adjacent to the 23-story hospital at 225 East Chicago Avenue and expands the medical campus footprint of Lurie Children’s.
The ADA has called Chicago home for over a century, with 211 East Chicago its headquarters for nearly 60 years. The organization plans to move its headquarters to 401 North Michigan Avenue.
“The ADA is excited to pass the torch of 211 East Chicago’s healthcare legacy to Lurie Children’s,” said ADA executive director Raymond A. Cohlmia, D.D.S. “We are proud to continue to call Chicago’s Mag Mile home and, more importantly, remain part of the health care landscape in Chicago and beyond.”
211 East Chicago’s proximity to Lurie Children’s main hospital has long been an ideal location for its workforce with many clinical staff offices conveniently located next door to where they provide care. In recent years, Lurie Children’s has been the ADA’s largest tenant. The purchase of 211 East Chicago is a strategic investment and provides the hospital long-term cost savings. Immediate plans for occupancy have not been finalized, but the site will allow the hospital to consolidate office space to expand clinical services to better meet the healthcare needs of children and families.
“The purchase aligns with Lurie Children’s mission to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare to every child who needs it,” said Kary McIlwain, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Communications Officer at Lurie Children’s. “As we continue to experience strong demand for our services, we plan to expand clinical capacity by moving more administrative offices out of the main hospital to our new building next door. This is an exciting milestone that coincides with the June anniversary of the hospital’s move 12 years ago to the state-of-the art facility we built in Streeterville. Acquiring this adjacent building will help ensure a sustainable and impactful future for our organization and the communities we serve.”
