The Philadelphia-based dentist was the ADA Sharecare contributor who posted the most answers—308— to questions posed by the public between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2012, on Sharecare.com, making him the winner of an ADA-sponsored contest and the recipient of an iPad.

"The contest provided the motivation to answer more questions and achieve a greater presence on the site," said Dr. Miller, who, as an ADA Sharecare contributor, has a profile page on the website with his photo, bio, links to his practice website, Facebook page and Twitter account, plus all the questions he has answered.

Dr. Miller can also be found through the ADA's Find-a-Dentist feature on MouthHealthy.org.

Sharecare.com is an online resource that invites the public to submit health-related questions and see them answered by health professionals.

The ADA is a leading resource of oral health content for the millions of people who visit Sharecare, which was founded by Mehmet Oz, M.D., of "The Doctor Oz Show," and Jeff Arnold, creator of WebMD.

Dr. Miller signed up to be an ADA Sharecare Contributor after the relationship was announced in 2011, wanting to be a part of a credible organization that provides accurate health information to the public.

"It's credible to dentists and the public because dentists answer oral health questions, which are reviewed prior to online publishing, and Dr. Oz's name signifies integrity and knowledge to the public," Dr. Miller said.

Dr. Miller found the contest to be a good exercise for answering complicated questions in every day language.

"In my office, patients become significantly more comfortable with us and their treatment when we sit down and explain what's happening in understandable nonthreatening language," Dr. Miller said. "When possible, I used the same approach in answering questions on Sharecare and putting a large number of answers in writing has even helped us improve our patient communication."
