ADA confers honorary membership on three

By Jennifer Garvin The ADA Board of Trustees conferred honorary membership on Linda Tarrson, Jim Marshall and Dr. Thomas Prince, Oct. 2, for their dedication to the profession of dentistry.
Each year the Association bestows honorary memberships on those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the art and science of dentistry.

Since 2003, Thomas Richard Prince, Ph.D., has served the ADA as a bridge to outstanding educational talent at the renowned Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Dr. Prince has played a pivotal role with ADA's Institute for Diversity in Leadership, which received a prestigious award from the Association Forum of Chicagoland as an outstanding new initiative. He has also guided the ADA/Kellogg Executive Program for Dentists, now in its fifth year. Dr. Prince recently retired from a 45-year career as professor of health systems management and accounting at Northwestern.
A member of the ADA Foundation Board of Directors, Linda Tarrson has also served the dental profession in numerous capacities over the years, including as a member of the Boards of the Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry, University of Southern California School of Dentistry and University of California at Los Angeles School of Dentistry. She is the widow of Emanuel B. "Bud" Tarrson—former president and CEO of John O. Butler Co.—and also the recipient of the 2005 Distinguished Service Award from the Dental Foundation of North Carolina.
Jim Marshall left the ADA in 2006 and is now officially retired. He first served as the assistant director of the ADA Council on ADA Benefits from 1974-78; then as the director of the Council on Dental Health and Health Planning from 1979-1987; the assistant director for the Council on Community Health, Hospital, Institutional and Medical Affairs from 1988-1996; and as the director for Council on Dental Benefit Programs from 1997-2006. He also served as the director of the Council on Dental Practice from 2001-2005.
