Dental students create ethics videos
Posted Oct. 1, 2009

The ADA Council on Ethics, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs has awarded the grand prize in the 2009 Student Ethics Video Contest to a group from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.

Illinois students Samuel D. Willens, Kaori Ema, Samia Rageb, Shivam Patel, Jason Foreman and Michael Rabinowitz entered the contest with their video, "Do the Right Thing." Each of the students will receive a share of the $1,000 grand prize.

The contest's goal is to create greater awareness of ethical dilemmas that dental students and professionals encounter, and to provide a forum for students to consider how those dilemmas should be addressed using the ADA Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct (also known as the ADA Code).

"Do the Right Thing" focuses on ADA Code Sections 1.B., Patient Records, and 2.G., Personal Relationships with Patients, and Advisory Opinion 5.B.6., Unnecessary Services.

The video will be shown in a continuous loop Thursday thru Sunday during program hours on a monitor located adjacent to the ADA Pavilion, near the top of the escalators outside Room 317A.

Honorable mention awards in the 2009 Student Ethics Video Contest went to students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and University of Michigan dental schools.
