'Pearls of the Alliance' receive Neff Award

Ten members of the Alliance of the American Dental Association have been recognized by the AADA this year for outstanding contributions to their Alliance and communities in the area of leadership, dental education, legislative advocacy and the wellbeing of the dental family. This year's recipients include:

  • Debra Auchter, Reading, Pa., a member for 27 years, has served as co-president for Berks County for the last four years;
  • Norine Bertagni, Wauconda, Ill., a long-time member, has served back-to-back terms as component and constituent president and on the national Dishing Up Smiles Cookbook Committee;
  • Rose Marie Dougherty, Griffin, Ga., a long-time member. has served as secretary for the AGDA and is active in dental health activities;
  • Judy Frey, Fort Wayne, Ind., a 47-year member, has served as component and constituent president;
  • Carol Heimann, Phoenix, a member for more than 25 years, is the first member-at-large Neff recipient, has served as District 10 Trustee and is involved in the Senior Smiles Programs in Arizona;
  • Dixie Hummel, Fenton, Mo., has been president of the Alliance of the greater St. Louis Dental Society, the Alliance of the Missouri Dental Association and AADA;
  • Gloria Lamacki, Chicago, has been a member of the Alliance for more than 30 years, and has served as president of the Alliance of Chicago Dental Association, the Alliance of the Illinois Dental Association and AADA;
  • Margo Martin, Kokomo, Ind., a member for 21 years, is currently AADA secretary and has served as president of the Indiana Dental Association;
  • Bootsey Torchia, Tulsa, Okla., a member for 35 years, has chaired Oklahoma's Dental Health Committee, served as convention chair and raised monies for DENPAC;
  • Margaret Tribe, Ogden, Utah, a member for 23 years, has been president of the Weber District Dental Alliance and is currently president of the Alliance of the Utah Dental Association.

Winners will be recognized at the Thelma J. Neff Awards Luncheon Saturday at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
