The Library's primary mission is to serve the information needs of ADA members and support those of ADA staff. Limited services are available to non members.
Library Collection and Services
The ADA Library contains an extensive collection of books and journals, covering all areas of dentistry and oral health, including clinical, research, practice management and historical topics. A team of professional librarians and support staff maintain the collection and respond to ADA member and staff information needs.
Members: Services are available to ADA members
and ASDA (American Student Dental Association)
members by mail, phone, fax, and web
during regular ADA business hours.
For after hours and weekend access,
members should use e-mail, online request forms, the online
catalog, or MEDLINE/Loansome Doc as
appropriate. See Services

Affiliates: Limited
services are available for International
ADA affiliates at member rates with
additional shipping charges. See Services
and Fees for Affiliate Members .
Non Members: Services are available for non members, primarily health professionals and libraries, at non member rates. Requests for specific documents only. No online or reference services. On-site use is permitted. See Services and Fees for Non Members.
Patients: Patients
should refer to the Your Oral Health,
or contact publicinfo@ada.org,
except for photocopies of JADA articles,
which are available through the ADA
Library. On-site use is permitted.

The department of Library Services
is located on the 6th floor of
the ADA Headquarters Building.
The collection is available for on-site
use during regular Library hours
to all local and visiting ADA members,
as well as to members of the public
who have appropriate information
needs from 8:30am until 5pm (Central
Time), Monday through Friday.

about patients and consumers?
Consumers who have appropriate information
needs may use the Library on-site. Remote
consumers should use
the “Your Oral
Health” section
of ADA.org. Photocopies of JADA articles
are available to the public from the ADA
Library for a fee of $12 per article. For
other resources, patients can access the
National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE/PubMed and MEDLINEPlus
databases on the Web.

does it cost?
Book loans are $10; journal articles are
$5, up to 20 pp. Non-members pay higher

Is
the catalog online?
Yes. The online
catalog on ADA.org lists all book
titles acquired by the Library since
1960. Members can search for and request
books via the catalog. (This is not a
full-text database.)

The Library lists New
Books recently added to its collection
in the online catalog. Or call us for

Can
I get information online?
The Library's online
catalog provides title information
on dental books and journals, but not
full text. However, by early 2004, the
Library will offer electronic document
delivery to members. Requested journal
articles can be scanned and delivered
in PDF format.
In addition, ADA.org provides valuable
information resources on many dental topics.

Consumer Topics,
or the Library's Web
Resource List .
And remember that MEDLINE/PubMed provides
abstracts for most articles.

Absolutely. We love to get calls from ADA
members. Our staff consists of experienced
library professionals and we invite you
