Advanced Dental Education

Postdoctoral education is a growing trend. According to the ADA’s 2003-04 Survey of Advanced Dental Education, the number of dentists pursuing advanced education has grown from 4,766 in 1997-98 to 5,348 in 2003-04, an increase of 12.2%.

Dentists pursue postdoctoral study for many different reasons. And since there are more than 724 programs available, deciding which advanced discipline and which program is best for you can be a difficult decision. Approximately half of the programs are dental school-based, while the other half are based in non-dental school institutions. As diagrammed below, stipends and tuition and fees vary between programs.
