ADA resources support dentists in hurricane zone
At press time, Hurricane Sandy continued to wreak havoc on the Eastern seaboard and mid-Atlantic states. Many dentists may be affected by flooding and other damage.
For information and updates, the ADA launched a Hurricane Sandy Web page at ADA.org/7894.aspx to keep members apprised of emergency- and disaster-related resources.
The Association issued reminders Oct. 30 to constituent and component societies regarding ADA resources and assistance. Individuals affected are encouraged to check with their state dental associations regarding disaster recovery. Information is also at ADA.org/disasterrecovery.aspx or through the Member Service Center at the toll-free number or 1-312-440-2500.
In addition, the ADA Foundation is working to provide support to dentists through its Disaster Assistance Grants Program. Grants of up to $5,000 may be available for dentists who have lost property in a declared disaster, and to organizations that can provide emergency dental care in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. The deadline to submit these applications is 60 days after the declared disaster.
