ADA Foundation accepting applications for predoctoral dental scholarships

The ADA Foundation is accepting applications for predoctoral dental student scholarships.  Approximately 50 scholarships worth $2,500 each will be awarded.

ADA Foundation looks to bolster scholarship efforts

In response to rising education costs, the ADA Foundation has launched a campaign to at least double the amount of funding it can make available for predoctoral dental student scholarships.

The foundation’s goal is to also increase the number and dollar amount of scholarships granted.

Foundation leadership is working with the American Student Dental Association to communicate the need for more scholarship funding and to seek contributions from members of the dental profession and the oral health care industry.

For more information about how to contribute to the ADA Foundation’s scholarship funding goals, contact Gene Wurth, executive director, at wurthg@ada.org or 1-312-440-2819, or Cathy Haibach at haibachc@ada.org or 1-312-440-2544.

Applications must be completed and submitted to the ADA Foundation by Nov. 30.

The goal of this program is to facilitate the education of academically gifted dental students and to help predoctoral dental students defray a part of their professional education expenses.

The predoctoral dental student scholarships offered by the ADA Foundation each year include at least 25 Predoctoral Dental Student Awards, at least 25 Underrepresented Minority Dental Student Scholarships, up to two Robert J. Sullivan Scholarships and up to two Dr. Robert B. Dewhirst Scholarships.

The Underrepresented Minority Dental Student Scholarship Program targets African-American, Hispanic and American Indian dental students, all of whom have been identified as underrepresented minorities in dentistry.

Recipients of the Robert J. Sullivan and Dr. Robert B. Dewhirst Scholarships will be selected from the pool of applicants for the Dental Student and Underrepresented Minority Dental Student Scholarships.

The criteria for the Robert J. Sullivan Scholarships are the same as for the Predoctoral Dental Student Awards.

Two Dr. Robert B. Dewhirst scholarships may be awarded, one to an applicant from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Dentistry and one to an applicant from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of the University of Southern California.
