ADA Living Guideline Program: Call for Comments

Dentists, health care professionals, organizations, and policy makers are invited to share their expertise and insight in support of the development of new guidelines through the ADA Living Guideline program.

Call for Comments: Oral Cancer Recommendations

OVERVIEW: The ADA and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine (Penn Dental Medicine) are updating a guideline on the early detection of potentially malignant disorders (PMDs) and oral cancer, last published in 2017.

The first draft recommendations for the early detection of PMDs and oral cancer with cytology adjuncts for this update are available and open for public comment.
The public comment period allows clinicians, patients and organizations to participate in the living guideline recommendation process. Feedback will be reviewed and used to inform the recommendations, which is expected for release later this year.
DEADLINE: September 12, 2025

Step 2: Attend a virtual listening session to review the evidence of the draft recommendations on Sept. 10, 2025. Register to participate.

FUTURE: More recommendations for the early detection of oral cavity/lip and oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma and oral PMDs will be available for public comment in the future.
